Have I shown you pictures of our grandchildren?

Rose...pastel on paper  8" x 10"

Our son and daughter in law, Rose's parents, gave me the gift of a box of pastels
from the wonderful Sennelier shop in Paris,  where Rose was born.

dogs in watercolor and dogs in oil

I got to thinking about the difference between  watercolor and oil painting....I enjoy both and have always liked painting dogs, as they each have their own personality, don't they? Here is a couple of examples of "man's best friend" done in watercolor, which has a lighter touch than oil.

Clark

Clark is painted in oil  9"x12"  and
it gives him his "sturdy" look...
which fits his personality.

of blogs and dogs

My younger daughter (and brand new mother!) has a great blog ... http://girloliver.blogspot.com/ ... and her enthusiasm for blogging is contagious. She has lent support and encouragement to me in my blog endeavor.  She also has two sweet dogs...a big ol' basset hound named Louis and a little dappled dachshund named Clark who will literally sit with his hind legs straight out in front of him as if to say "how cute am I?"
(Louis is pretty cute too in his own special way)

the inspiration

I have been painting in watercolor for many years. Recently I was inspired to get into oil for a couple of reasons. My older daughter asked me to paint an oil portrait of Grace, her daughter, and around the same time I discovered Duane Keiser's wonderful blog about daily painting. I didn't complete the portrait in one day but I sure did work on it every day! Both ideas were inspiring and fun and I have been painting in oil ever since. As for blogging, I am a novice but I can thank my younger daughter who has been at it for quite a while...check out her blog at http://girloliver.blogspot.com/
